A Note on Sources and Verification

This book makes two kinds of claims, and they answer to two different standards.

Claims about my own works are drawn from the Ethereum ledger. Contract addresses and transaction hashes are printed in the text and gathered in the Chronology, and the reader is invited — urged — to verify them independently; Appendix A shows how, step by step, in about ten minutes. Nothing I assert about my own record should be taken on my word, because none of it needs to be.

Claims about art history, the art market, and the development of this technology are drawn from published scholarship and reporting, cited in the Notes at the back of this book. I have tried to hold this second kind of claim to the standard the first kind sets: nothing asserted that cannot be checked.

Where my usage of a term differs from the market's, the Glossary states my definition; use mine within these pages and the market's outside them.
